1. Move large pieces of furniture (coaches, sofas, cabinets, etc.) away from both cold and hot air registers. Large objects blocking the returns will result in a room that is either too hot or too cold.

To get the best heat circulation and efficiency make sure furniture doesn’t interfere with that circulation.

2. Change or clean the furnace filter. Have you done this recently? If not your furnace is working harder than it should and it’s circulating dirty air through your home. Using a dirty furnace filter is like throwing money away and it’s an unnecessary risk to your family’s health. This may be one of the simplest, yet most important energy saving tips.

3. Use your microwave to cook your foods partially, even if you are going to finish the cooking on your range. The microwave can also be used to thaw foods before cooking. the microwave works faster, so it saves energy.

4. Repair any leaky faucets. This is another one of the most important energy saving tips. You could be wasting gallons of water every year if your faucets leak, There’s no reason for it. Simply take a wrench and tighten the faucet handles or pick up a new one. Most of them are easy to install.

5. Clean the lint filter in your clothes dryer on a daily basis. The dryer will run more efficiently and use less energy. Not only that it will reduce the possibility of a lint fire. In fact, the lint vent should be cleaned periodically too.

6. Check the windows for gaps and cracks and seal them. Adjust or replace storm doors if they aren’t sealing tightly.
